Deputy Fire Marshal Dorothy
Priolo
Deputy Fire marshal Priolo
was born in upstate New York and graduated from high
school and college in Clearwater, Florida. Coming from a family
with two generations of Volunteer Firefighters in Upstate New
York, DFM Priolo moved to California just in time for the 1989
Loma Prieta Earthquake and joined the Salinas Rural Fire
District in 1990 as Fire Prevention Assistant. With an Associate
of Science Degree in Legal Secretarial Science from St.
Petersburg Junior College, additional classes in the Paralegal
program and background with various law codes as a Legal
Secretary, she developed her career in Fire Prevention. She has
continued her education at Monterey Peninsula College and under
the mentorship of Fire Marshal Dave Shaw, who retired in 2000.
She developed her plan review, inspection and code
interpretation skills under Fire Marshal Shaw’s direction and
served as a Acting Fire Marshal until Fire Marshal Shaw’s
position was filled. Upon reorganization of the Fire Prevention
Division, the position of Fire Prevention Assistant was
redesigned as the position of Deputy Fire Marshal. DFM Priolo
has completed the Level I and Level II Fire Prevention series of
classes offered by Monterey Peninsula College and the California
Fire Academy. DFM Priolo is married and has two children. She
enjoys needlecrafts in her spare time, exploring local points of
interest, and annual travels to the East Coast to visit family.
