Salinas
Rural Fire District started the Characters Program in
2003 to educate our youth about life safety and fire prevention.
Our Characters Program is composed of firefighters who have a
knack for demonstrating fire and life safety with an effective
and zany approach, using props and costumes, appealing to “kids”
of all ages. Our motivation is based on our experience in caring
for sick and injured children in often tragic situations,
recognizing that the worst accident is the one that could have
been prevented with a little education.
Salinas Rural Fire District’s Characters Program educates
children through the use of entertaining and interactive
characterization. Some of the topics covered are:
- smoke detectors
- 2 ways out
- stop, drop & roll
- 9-1-1
- holiday safety tips
The Characters Program works with
schools within our fire district and participates in children’s
safety fairs throughout Monterey County. If you would like any
